Extracurricular Afternoon Activities

Several opportunities exist for students to participate in extracurricular activities afterschool at the Saint John Lutheran School.

Monday afternoons from 2:45-3:45 students in grades 5-12 are welcome to participate in the handbell choir. They play the handbells for various musical events throughout the year. Mr. John Folland is the director for this musical ensemble. Participating in the handbell choir does require a commitment to attend practice sessions regularly every week, since the absence of bellringers makes it difficult or impossible for the rest of the members to cover all of the notes in the musical selections, resulting in less productive rehearsal for everyone.

Tuesday afternoons individual piano lessons are offered, taught by Miss Emily. Anyone with a desire to learn how to play should contact her for more information and to enroll.

Wednesday afternoons the chess club meets from 2:45 - 3:45. Here children can stimulate their minds learning to play chess, improving their tactics and strategies, and engaging in friendly competition with others who share this interest. Mr. John Folland is the faculty advisor.

Thursday afternoons the newspaper club meets from 2:45 - 3:45. Any student from grades 5-12 who likes to write news articles and wants to be a reporter on the Eagle News, the monthly school newspaper, is welcome to come and join the club. Mr. John Folland is the faculty advisor.

Friday afternoons, students from grades 5-12 meet to play volleyball in the school gymnasium. It is a chance to get some physical exercise, improve game skills, practice good sportsmanship, and have fun. Mr. Travis Weesner will be supervising this activity.
